Marianne has been a practicing information architect for 14 years. . She discovered a connection between information behavior and information retrieval in 2004 and started applying user experience principles to optimizing content for search engine visibility. In 2010, Google started doing the same. Currently, she is a SR Search Strategist and information architect at Portent Inc. (www.portent.com), an integrated digital marketing agency in Seattle, Washington. Spring quarter finds her teaching Introduction to Information Retrieval at the University of Washington Information School. Prior to joining Portent Interactive, Marianne was the Director of Search Services for Ascentium. She was an information architect/Web producer at Microsoft for 7+ years where she developed a fondness but not aptitude for coding.
