Internationally Renowned Experts to Speak at
SMX Madrid – June 3-4


The Madrid edition of Search Marketing Expo (SMX) promises a cutting edge program covering the most recent search engine trends and developments, presented by top authorities in the field of search. SMX Madrid will be held June 3-4, 2009 at the North Convention Center of IFEMA in Madrid.

The SMX Madrid agenda features a strong vertical search presence, from diverse sectors such as tourism, people search and semantic search. Other central themes include multi-format ranking, search engine algorithms, search engines in international markets and campaign and landing page optimization. Keynotes and topics on Day One include:

  • Faisal Galaria, International General Director of Kayak.com and Business Development Director for EMEA and Asia. Galaria will address the development of one of the world’s major travel vertical search engines and its international expansion.
  • Julio Fernández, Senior Search & Social Media Strategist of Global Strategies (and ex-Global Director of Marketing at the Oracle Corporation). Fernández will discuss his experience as director of global search engine and social media strategies for international businesses. He will also share insights from his role as principal marketing executive in Oracle.

Day One sessions are split between a fundamentals track and an advanced track, allowing both search marketing beginners and industry veterans to benefit from attending SMX Madrid. The beginners track includes will explore topics such as search engine use worldwide, search marketing fundamentals, and includes a search engine optimization workshop. Advanced track attendees can expect to hear experts discuss universal search, multi-format ranking – and a much-anticipated landing pages workshop.

  • Dr. Barney Pell, Partner, Search Strategist and Evangelist, Microsoft. Dr. Pell is the founder of Powerset, search engine bought by Microsoft in 2008. Pell will share his deep understanding of semantic search and will tell us about new Microsoft products related to search engines, such as Kumo.
  • Russell E. Perry, CEO of 123people.com. The head of the largest, international real-time people search tool will discuss how his company’s search tool finds and identifies information about people from sources that are all publically available on the web.

Presentations on Day Two will have an international or social media emphasis, with notable topics including:
